Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with President Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
